What are the Puppik Dance Syllabi?

Puppik Dance is dedicated to encouraging Creative Dance and developing Creative Contemporary Dance Practice which includes providing syllabi and developing experiences that give dancers the opportunity to be inspired, get creative, acquire skills dance and to gain awards. We aim to develop self expression and self esteem in young people.  We hope you and your students have fun.

Puppik Dance awards and syllabi have been created by Dance Educationalist and author Justine Reeve to inspire creative dance in educational settings and to also ensure that dance is vibrant part of our UK education system. The syllabi aims to inspire young people, schools, teachers, dancers, choreographers, dance artists and dance companies to achieve high standards of participation, learning and creativity. 

The Creative Dance Syllabus for Secondary 

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for young people to explore and imaginatively learn dance and achieve awards as they progress their choreographic skills. Awards are given at different stages of understanding: BRONZE, SILVER and GOLD. 

This syllabus provides the information needed to explore and assess creative dance with students. It is designed to be used by both classroom teachers and other companies or individuals delivering dance as an extra curricular activity, workshop or youth dance company. It is aimed at dancers aged 11-16 years (KS3/KS4). 

The tasks and easy to understand as the dancers will show evidence that they have been creative with the choreographic principles. Designed to inspire creative movement responses in young dancers allowing them to achieve Graded awards which are assessed at the end of each of three set tasks. Creative dancers can achieve a Bronze, Silver and Gold Creative Dance Awards. Teachers will assess this from the grading criteria given in the syllabus pack then complete, print and present the given certificate.

This syllabus also comes with a 6 lesson creative dance scheme of work to introduce choreography to dancers in KS3/KS4.

THE CONTEMPORARY DANCE AWARDS
The Foundation Awards: Standard 1, 2 and 3 

The Contemporary Dance syllabus in standards 1, 2 and 3 are intended for use with KS3 as an introduction to this style of dance are also appropriate and can add value to KS4 courses.  

The syllabus includes links easy to follow videos that demonstrate the exercises and then you, the teacher, will assess your students against the comprehesive assessment criteria provided. This criteria has been written with KS3 'assessing without levels' in mind so ideal for use in schools.

You will asses your dancers on each exercise and each standard is graded Unclassified. Pass, Merit and Distinction and Distinction *. There are five short exercises to master as part of the three foundation standards alongside a teacher created amalgamation (this can be created from the exercises, set pharses, set studies, repertoire or be teacher choreographed).

You will assess the exercises when you think they are ready and once the dancers have achieved above a Pass you can print, complete and present them with a certificate.  This could be Standard 1 in Year 7, Standard 2 in Year 8 and Standard 3 in Year 9. Once all the exercises have been mastered these can easily be joined together to create a full body warm up to use before any KS4 practical class or to prepare dancers for performance.
